LADOGA – Omer Gates, 88, retired plumber, died Friday morning at 11 o’clock in the Westbrook Nursing Home at Crawfordsville. He had been a patient there since December and had been in failing health for three years. Gates was born in Brookville, April 6, 1874, son of Lucius and Belena Gates. He was married in 1896 to Clara Ronk, who died in 1929. In 1930, he was married to Grace Ferguson. She died April 17, 1949. Prior to entering the nursing home, Gates lived in Ladoga with Mr. and Mrs. Claude Harshbarger. She is a foster daughter. Gates was a member of the Ladoga Church of the Bethren. Survivors include the foster daughter, two sisters, Mrs. T. E. Thompson and Mrs. Lora Edlin, both of Lake Wales, Fla., and several neices and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Gephart Funeral Home here with burial in the Ladoga Cemetery. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home. – jlr
